Start of RADAR-aim

We are excited to announce the launch of RADAR-AIM, a European initiative dedicated to advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) education for sustainability! This Erasmus+ project brings together leading universities, research centres, and online learning experts to create innovative, modular micro-credential programmes that equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and tools to tackle sustainability challenges using AI.

In response to the growing need for high-quality AI and sustainability education, RADAR-AIM aims to develop flexible and inclusive learning pathways suitable for professionals, students, and lifelong learners. The project focuses on integrating AI methods with real-world sustainability challenges, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and fostering digital readiness across Europe.

RADAR-AIM is more than just a training programme. We are building a forward-looking European learning ecosystem that connects higher education, research, and industry partners. By co-creating innovative courses and sharing best practices, the project strengthens cross-border collaboration, promotes sustainable education, and supports the development of future-proof skills in AI and sustainability.

Our consortium brings together a diverse and complementary set of partners:

  • VUB-FARI (Belgium) – Coordinator of the project, providing expertise in AI training and recently piloted postgraduate programmes for professionals.

  • Universidade NOVA de Lisboa / NOVA IMS (Portugal) – Leader of WP2, global top school in Data Science and Information Management, pioneering AI applications for sustainability.

  • D-Teach Online Training (Belgium) – Lead of WP5 and co-lead of WP2, experts in online and blended learning design, learning experience design, and international dissemination.

  • Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (Italy) – Leader of WP3, focusing on learning experience design and the technical-graphical development of online modules.

  • Virtual Academy of Sustainability (VAS, Germany) – Leader of WP4, offering free digital courses in Education for Sustainable Development and integrating sustainability into AI projects.

Over the next three years, RADAR-AIM will co-develop:

  • Modular micro-credential courses (15–30 credits) on AI for sustainability, designed to be embedded in existing programmes or delivered as a complete professional learning path.

  • Innovative learning experiences, combining online, blended, and challenge-based learning to foster collaboration, critical thinking, and practical skills.

  • A European ecosystem of collaboration, connecting higher education institutions, industry, and learners to share best practices and drive sustainable innovation.

Through RADAR-AIM, learners across Europe will gain access to high-quality, flexible, and future-oriented training that empowers them to harness AI responsibly and effectively to address the pressing sustainability challenges of our time.
